| Reverse description | The reverse presents a full-color depiction of the venerated statue of Our Lady of Loreto, shown as a crowned Black Madonna richly adorned in an ornate embroidered mantle of gold, black, and brown, set within a vaulted arched niche with elaborate Gothic tracery in the background. A radiant sun motif in color appears above the arch at the top of the composition. Flanking the central figure on both sides are detailed sprays of red roses rendered in full color against the silver field, evoking Marian iconography. The curved legend OUR LADY OF LORETO is inscribed around the upper periphery in raised relief Latin letters. |

Tokelau — three atolls in the South Pacific with no airport, a population under 1,500, and a coin program that exists almost entirely for the collector market. The territory issues under New Zealand authority, and pieces like this one are struck by contract mints and never circulate domestically. Our Lady of Loreto, patroness of aviation and pilgrims, is an odd but recurring subject in Pacific island numismatic issues targeting Catholic European collector demographics.
