The Ottifant is the cartoon elephant created by German comedian Otto Waalkes, who has been a mainstream fixture in Germany since the 1970s. The Perth Mint has aggressively pursued licensed character coins for the European collector market, and this collaboration reflects that commercial strategy directly.
