| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after Ian Rank-Broadley, diademed and draped, occupying the central field. The portrait is set against a dark inner field encircled by a decorative rope border, around which appear twelve heraldic badges and emblems of the Knights of the Garter, including mounted knights, swords, orbs, and a crown, rendered in high relief with gold plating. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs to the upper left, TOKELAU to the upper right, and ONE DOLLAR below, with the date 2017 at the right and the engraver's initials IRB beneath the portrait.
