Additional information

The "Lucky Loonie" tradition dates to the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, when a loonie was secretly embedded beneath center ice at the E Center by icemaker Trent Evans — Canada swept both the men's and women's hockey gold medals, and the coin became instant mythology. The RCM capitalized on that story for Athens 2004 with this silver collector issue, timed to Canadian athletes carrying the superstition into the Summer Games.
