Notre Dame Cathedral became the subject of numerous commemorative silver issues from small Pacific and Caribbean sovereigns in the 2000s, Niue among them. These programs were licensed through distribution agencies — primarily the Pobjoy Mint and similar operations — that handled design, striking, and global retail for a percentage of proceeds, with the issuing nation contributing little beyond its legal tender status.
KM#402 was struck at 28.28g in .925 silver, a specification lifted wholesale from the standard crown-sized format shared across dozens of Niuean commemoratives of the same period.
