| Reverse description | Full-length frontal depiction of the Australian bushranger Ned Kelly clad in his iconic hand-fashioned iron suit of armour, including the distinctive rectangular helmet with a narrow eye slit, rendered in high relief against a plain field. The subject is shown standing with arms slightly raised, wearing a long coat beneath the armour. The legend NED KELLY arcs along the upper portion of the field in bold serif lettering, while the denomination $1 appears to the right of the central device. |

| Additional information |
Ned Kelly was hanged at Melbourne Gaol in November 1880, aged 25, after a siege at Glenrowan in which he wore a homemade suit of plate armour that stopped police bullets but left his legs exposed. The Cook Islands has no historical connection to Kelly whatsoever — this is a bullion novelty issued under the Pacific nation's licensing arrangements, which have produced hundreds of such themed micro-gold pieces for the collector market since the 2000s.
