Part of a 50-coin series issued by Tuvalu commemorating each U.S. state, this piece corresponds to Mississippi, the 20th state admitted to the Union in 1817. The series was produced by the Perth Mint under licensing arrangements that became a significant revenue stream for Tuvalu, whose government relies heavily on such numismatic programs — along with the lease of its .tv internet domain — given the near-absence of conventional export income.
