| Reverse description | Three-quarter facing portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, depicted wearing his characteristic round-framed spectacles, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. To the left of the portrait, a detailed depiction of a multi-tiered Indian temple tower (gopuram) rises toward the upper field. The arc legend HISTORY OF ASIA runs along the upper periphery, with the inscription MAHATMA GANDHI positioned across the upper-central field below it. |

| Additional information |
Cook Islands leveraged its status as a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand to build one of the most prolific commemorative coin programs in the Pacific, issuing pieces for foreign markets with little connection to the islands themselves. Gandhi's appearance here is purely a function of collector demand, not political or historical relationship — the Cook Islands had no meaningful tie to the Indian independence movement.
