Cook Islands has issued commemorative dollars under its own authority since 1972, though the islands' monetary relationship with New Zealand means these pieces circulate in name only. The George IV portrait used here draws from the canonical William Wyon model, the same source that anchored British coinage through much of the 1820s and 1830s.
