Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the third portrait by Raphael Maklouf, depicting the Queen diademed and wearing drop earrings and a pearl necklace, set against a darkened mirror field. A beaded inner border frames the design. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery, NIUE along the upper right, ONE DOLLAR along the right, and the date 2012 appears in the lower field.

Reverse description The reverse features a vivid full-color photographic rendering of bearded iris (Iris barbata) blooms in shades of yellow, russet, and violet-white occupying the lower two-thirds of the field. Behind the flowers, a finely engraved silver relief of the Parthenon atop the Acropolis of Athens rises against the darkened background. The name IRIS BARBATA is incused in rounded lettering along the upper arc, and the silver fineness mark Ag 925 appears in small characters at the lower right of the field.
