| Obverse description | The obverse features a circular raised disk set within the rectangular flan, bearing the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, crowned and wearing the George IV State Diadem, with a pearl drop earring visible. The portrait, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, is rendered in high relief against a polished proof field. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left and NIUE ISLAND along the right, with the date 2012 positioned at the top. Niue has operated as a reliable vehicle for commemorative silver issues since the 1990s, licensing its sovereign mint authority to produce coins that circulate nowhere near the island's population of roughly 1,500 people.
