Hot Wheels turned 50 in 2018, and Mattel licensed the brand for a run of collectible coins through several mints worldwide. The Perth Mint's issue leaned into the anniversary hard, producing a colored collector piece aimed squarely at the intersection of diecast hobbyists and numismatists — a crossover market the mint had been cultivating aggressively through licensed pop-culture issues since at least the mid-2000s.
Mintage was capped at 25,000. These moved primarily through hobbyist retail channels rather than traditional coin dealers.
