| Reverse description | The reverse presents a whimsical holiday scene in low relief depicting Santa Claus standing beside a reindeer, with a stack of wrapped gift boxes at his side and a grouping of stylized evergreen trees in the right background field. Snowflakes dot the upper field, evoking a winter night setting. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper border and DOLLAR 2022 along the lower border, all within a beaded inner circle. The designer's initials SH appear discreetly in the lower right field. |

| Additional information |
The Royal Canadian Mint has produced annual holiday gift dollars since the 1990s, packaging standard-specification loonies in seasonal folders and tins aimed squarely at the gift market rather than circulation. These pieces are struck to collector quality but share the same alloy and dimensions as the working loonie — the distinction is entirely in the packaging and the "Holiday Gift" designation pressed into the mint's records.
Elizabeth II died in September 2022, making this one of the final Canadian coins issued under her effigy before the transition to Charles III.
