Obverse description Right-facing diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing a tiara and a necklace, her hair styled in curls. The legend BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS arcs along the upper left periphery, while QUEEN ELIZABETH II and the date 2003 arc along the upper right periphery. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a plain field, consistent with the Ian Rank-Broadley style used on Commonwealth coinage of this period.

Reverse description Central field depicts a scene of Queen Elizabeth II riding in an open-top state automobile, surrounded by a jubilant crowd of waving spectators lining the route. Above the central scene, the royal cypher ER appears prominently in the upper field. The circular legend GOLDEN JUBILEE OF THE CORONATION arcs along the upper periphery, with the dates 1953 and 2003 flanking the lower field, and the denomination 1 $ inscribed at the base. The composition evokes the celebratory processions of the 1953 Coronation and its fiftieth anniversary.
