| Reverse description | A full-color reproduction of fragment 6 of 9 from the celebrated ancient Roman fresco cycle of the Villa of Mysteries (Villa dei Misteri), Pompeii, circa 60–50 BC. The scene depicts several female figures in a ritual or initiation context, rendered against the characteristic deep Pompeian red background. The figures are shown in draped robes, engaged in ceremonial poses suggestive of Dionysiac mystery rites. The color application faithfully reproduces the warm ochres, terracottas, and earthy tones of the original fresco. This tile forms the sixth of nine interlocking rectangular segments comprising the complete series. |
