| Obverse description | Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the third portrait by Raphael Maklouf, depicting the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara with pearl drop earrings and a necklace. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the left periphery and 'NIUE ISLAND' along the right, with the date '2011' positioned above the effigy in the upper field. The denomination inscription '1/9th of 9 Dollars' appears below the coin in the exergual area of the packaging presentation. The portrait is rendered in high-relief proof finish against a mirror-polished field. |

The Villa of the Mysteries fresco in Pompeii survived the 79 AD eruption of Vesuvius sealed beneath volcanic debris for nearly seventeen centuries. When excavated in the early twentieth century, the triclinium room revealed one of the best-preserved large-scale Roman paintings in existence. Niue's nine-part fragmented series issued in 2011 reproduces sections of that frieze across separately sold coins — a format borrowed from earlier fragmented coin programs that gained commercial traction in the late 2000s.
Completing all nine pieces requires acquiring each individually. The assembled set reconstructs the full frieze panel.
