Part of the Royal Australian Mint's "Famous Fighters of World War II" series issued under Tuvalu's licensing arrangement, this coin commemorates the Grumman F6F Hellcat, the carrier-based fighter credited with destroying more enemy aircraft than any other Allied plane in the Pacific — over 5,000 confirmed kills by the war's end. The U.S. Navy's kill ratio in Hellcat-equipped squadrons ran approximately 19:1 against Japanese opponents.
Tuvalu's use as an issuing authority here is purely commercial; the country has no historical connection to the aircraft.
