Obverse description Central to the obverse is a small circular inset bearing the right-facing diademed effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, with the legend ELIZABETH II curved beneath. Below the portrait, the fineness mark Ag 999 appears to the left and the date 2013 to the right, with the denomination 1 DOLLAR prominently inscribed across the middle field. A large gilt cartouche occupies the lower portion of the oval field, depicting a standing Cossack warrior in traditional dress flanked by decorative scrollwork and cannons in high relief. The legend NIUE ISLAND arcs along the upper border in Latin characters, while the Cyrillic inscription ВИДАТНІ ГЕТЬМАНИ УКРАЇНИ (Outstanding Hetmans of Ukraine) curves along the lower border. The coin's polished proof fields provide a strong contrast to the frosted and gilt design elements.
