Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA
(Translation: Elizabeth II Queen by the grace of God)
Reverse description The reverse commemorates the centennial of the discovery of silver at Cobalt, Ontario, depicting a prominent mine headframe with associated outbuildings set against a rocky, ore-rich landscape rendered in fine detail. In the lower field, a red fox trots alertly across the foreground, referencing the local legend that a fox hunt led to the original silver discovery in 1903. The dual commemorative dates 1903 and 2003 appear to the right of the headframe, with the engraver's initials JM positioned in the lower right field. The arc legend CANADA arcs across the upper left and DOLLAR across the upper right, framing the central design. A beaded border encircles the entire reverse.
