Issued to mark the 60th anniversary of the November 1947 Westminster Abbey wedding, this is one of dozens of commemorative dollars Cook Islands produced under licensing arrangements that had little to do with the islands themselves. The Royal Mint had no involvement; pieces like this were typically contracted through private minting firms supplying the commemorative market.
Gold-plated copper-nickel issues of this type were produced in large quantities for the collector gift trade, not for circulation.
