Reverse description The central field depicts two curlers in action, rendered in detailed relief: one player releases a curling stone along the ice sheet while a second sweeps vigorously ahead of the stone. The curling sheet with its distinctive target rings is visible in the foreground, with a stylised arena background suggested in the mid-field. The legend WINTER GAMES 2002 SALT LAKE CITY arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination ONE DOLLAR is inscribed in the lower segment. The composition captures the dynamic movement of the sport with fine engraving detail throughout.

Additional information

Issued under Cook Islands' long-running licensed program with the New Zealand-based Pobjoy Mint and its successors, this piece belongs to a wave of commemorative dollars produced in the early 2000s targeting thematic collectors around the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Curling had only been reinstated as a full Olympic medal sport in 1998 at Nagano after a 74-year absence from the program.
