Part of Perth Mint's ongoing Australian Antarctic Territory wildlife program, this issue belongs to a series that has drawn consistent collector interest less for the coins themselves than for the subject matter — crabeater seals are, despite their name, almost exclusively krill feeders, a misnomer originating from early 19th-century European naturalists who misidentified stomach contents. They are estimated to be the most numerous large mammal on Earth after humans.
