Additional information

Australia's first official airmail flight launched on December 16, 1914, when Josephoel flew a Bleriot XI monoplane from Mildura to Mungador carrying 1,872 letters — a journey of roughly 50 miles completed in under an hour. The centenary attracted commemorative issues from several Pacific nations whose currency ties to Australia made the subject a natural fit for their collector programs.

Tuvalu's issues of this type are produced by the Perth Mint under licensing arrangements that have supplied the island nation's collector coinage since the 1970s.
