| Reverse description | The reverse presents a colourized portrait of Empress Catherine the Great of Russia, shown as a three-quarter facing bust dressed in imperial robes and ermine-trimmed mantle against a dark field. Superimposed over the composition are two gold-coloured medallion images reproducing both the obverse and reverse of a Russian gold coin of Catherine II's reign, shown in relief. Behind the portrait, the Cyrillic text of the 1769 state banknote inscription is reproduced in script lettering across the field, accompanied by facsimile signatures. The dates 1729–1796 appear on a cartouche at the base, and the fineness mark Ag 925 is inscribed in the lower field. |
