| Reverse description | Full-color reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci's painting the Benois Madonna (c. 1478–1480), rendered across the entire rectangular field. The composition depicts the Virgin Mary, shown as a young woman with auburn hair and a golden halo, dressed in a green and burgundy gown, gazing tenderly downward at the Christ Child seated on her lap. The Infant Jesus, also haloed, reaches toward a small flower held by the Madonna, his gaze directed upward toward her. A arched window opening onto a dark background is visible in the upper right of the composition, consistent with da Vinci's characteristic sfumato technique and atmospheric perspective. |

| Additional information |
This minuscule gold piece — among the smallest gold coins produced by any modern mint — was issued as part of a broader trend of fractional "mini gold" collectibles licensed through the New Zealand Mint on behalf of Tokelau, a non-self-governing territory whose coinage program exists entirely as a revenue instrument rather than a circulating currency. At 0.0622 g, it contains roughly 1/500th of a troy ounce of fine gold.
The Benois Madonna is a small Leonardo panel painting acquired by the Hermitage in 1914 from the Benois family, having spent centuries in private hands with its attribution to Leonardo disputed until the late 19th century.
