Additional information

Niue's bullion and collector program has long served as a vehicle for themed series issued under licensing arrangements, with the actual design and distribution handled almost entirely by external minting and marketing firms — the island's sovereign status providing the legal issuing authority while contributing little else to the coin's production. This particular piece belongs to a wave of art-themed silver issues that flooded the collector market in the early 2010s, when demand for novelty .999 silver rounds dressed as legal tender reached a commercial peak.

Niue's GDP in 2014 was roughly $10 million USD. The face value of one dollar was purely nominal.
