| Additional information |
Niue has served since the 1990s as a licensed issuing authority for collector coins that have no meaningful connection to the island's economy or population of roughly 1,600 people. This piece belongs to the "Aureus Moneta" series, which takes its name from the Roman monetary tradition — Juno Moneta, whose temple on the Capitoline Hill housed the Roman mint, is the etymological root of the words "money" and "mint" themselves.
The series is a product of a modern bullion-collector market rather than any sovereign monetary need. KM# 204 places it within a documented sequence.
