| Obverse description | The diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right at the upper center of the coin, rendered in high relief against a darkened field. The surrounding annular border is divided into two concentric rings of raised beads. The legend ELIZABETH II appears to the left and COOK ISLANDS to the right, with ONE DOLLAR inscribed along the lower arc, all separated by raised dot stops. Part of Cook Islands' early-2000s run of zodiac gemstone dollars, this piece was produced during a period when the island's licensing arrangements with overseas minting houses generated a flood of novelty collector issues bearing the Cook Islands name despite negligible local circulation. The encapsulated bloodstone — a dark green chalcedony with red iron oxide inclusions — is a historically attested birthstone for Aries, referenced as far back as medieval lapidaries.
