| Reverse description | The reverse presents a highly detailed rendition of three overlapping maple leaves on a single stem, the iconic design of the Gold Maple Leaf series, depicted in high relief with naturalistic vein and lobe detail. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper periphery, while the inscription FINE GOLD 9999 1/20 OZ OR PUR runs along the lower portion of the field. To the lower left, the bilingual anniversary inscription 40 YEARS / ANS appears, flanked by the commemorative date range 1979/2019 to the right.
