Additional information

Anna Bilińska-Bohdanowicz was one of the most technically accomplished Polish painters of the nineteenth century, trained in Paris under Rodolphe Julian and later exhibiting to considerable acclaim at the Salon. Her 1887 self-portrait — now held in the National Museum in Kraków — drew direct comparisons to the Old Masters from French critics who had no idea its author was a woman from Złotów. She died in 1893 at thirty-six, shortly after her wedding.

This Niue issue is part of a broader Polish commemorative program produced through the Perth Mint arrangement common to many Pacific-issued collector coins of the period.
