Issued by the Perth Mint as part of a broader wave of Australian legal-tender commemoratives tied to literary anniversaries, this piece coincides with the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll's original 1865 publication. Carroll — the pen name of Oxford mathematics lecturer Charles Dodgson — wrote the story for Alice Liddell, daughter of the Dean of Christ Church, during a rowing trip on the Thames in July 1862, three years before it reached print.
