Issued to mark the centenary of QANTAS, founded in Longreach, Queensland in 1920 as the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service. The A380 became synonymous with the airline's long-haul ambitions, though by the time this coin was struck QANTAS had already announced the suspension of its A380 fleet following the COVID-19 collapse of international aviation — an irony the mint's release schedule could not have anticipated.
The pad-printed colour application places this squarely in the RAM's post-2015 collector circulation dollar series, where colour printing replaced enamel for cost and production reasons.
