The Kookaburra silver bullion series launched in 1990, making this 2020 release the thirtieth annual issue in an unbroken run — a stretch of consistency unusual for a bullion program, most of which get quietly discontinued or redesigned within a decade. The Perth Mint has varied the kookaburra design every year since inception, meaning no two annual strikes share the same reverse, a deliberate policy that drives collector demand well beyond the spot-silver market.
High relief striking on a 31g planchet requires significantly more die pressure and produces far greater die wear, which is why Perth typically limits these proof variants to modest mintages compared to the standard bullion run.
