Additional information

The "six plush kangaroos" dollar — colloquially known among collectors as the family grouping reverse — was introduced as part of the Royal Australian Mint's ongoing revision of the circulation dollar's reverse design, a program that has produced multiple kangaroo configurations since the coin's introduction in 1984. The specific grouping of four figures was intended to reflect a more naturalistic mob arrangement than the single bounding kangaroo used for decades.

Jody Clark's sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, adopted by Australia in 2019, appears here in its earliest dollar circulation pairings before her death in September 2022 rendered the obverse obsolete for future issues.
