Issued during the COVID-19 pandemic, this coin was part of the Royal Australian Mint's push to support charitable giving at a time when in-person fundraising had collapsed almost entirely. A portion of proceeds from sales went to nominated Australian charities — an unusual arrangement that blurred the line between legal tender and fundraising merchandise. The pad-printing technique applied to the reverse was still relatively new to Australian coinage production at the time of issue.
