Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, as sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley for the fourth definitive portrait. The truncation of the neck is bare, and the initials IRB appear below. The surrounding legend reads ELIZABETH II to the left and AUSTRALIA 2012 to the right, all in raised Latin characters within the field.

Reverse description A pad-printed polychrome depiction of a tree kangaroo perched upon a diagonal branch, rendered in naturalistic brown and dark tones, occupying the central field. Stylised foliage and bare branch elements flank the animal on either side, framing the composition. The denomination numeral 1 appears in the lower centre of the field, with the legend DOLLAR inscribed below in raised Latin lettering. The design was engraved by Bronwyn King and the colourisation applied by pad-printing technique.
