| Reverse description | A stylised, cartoon-inspired depiction of a bull ant (Myrmecia sp.) occupying the central field, rendered in bold relief with an oversized head displaying prominent mandibles and segmented body with six legs extending dramatically across the field. A partial circular tunnel or burrow motif frames the insect from behind, evoking the ant's underground habitat. The legend BULL ANT arcs across the upper field in bold, outlined lettering designed to appeal to younger collectors. The Perth Mint mintmark P and the designers' initials EM appear in the lower right field. |

The "Young Collectors" series was Perth Mint's deliberate attempt to pull children into the hobby during a period when Australian coin collecting was aging badly demographically. The bull ant — aggressive, architecturally sophisticated in its nest construction, and capable of delivering a sting that has caused anaphylactic fatalities — was an odd but characteristically Australian choice for a series aimed at kids.
