Reverse description Two kangaroos are depicted in a dynamic boxing pose, rearing upright on their hind legs and striking at one another, rendered in raised relief against a vivid coloured background evoking the Australian outback landscape, featuring red rock formations reminiscent of Uluru and sparse native trees beneath a blue sky. The denomination $1 appears in the lower right field, and the Perth Mint's P mintmark is situated to the right within the decorative border. A series of horizontal lines in the lower field separates the central design from the reeded border.

Additional information

The "Boxing Kangaroos" design has an oddly military origin — the image became embedded in Australian popular culture largely through its use as an unofficial emblem by the Royal Australian Navy and later by America's Cup yacht teams in the 1980s. The Perth Mint's Young Collectors series leveraged that familiarity deliberately, targeting children's starter sets rather than the general circulation pool. These saw minimal handling by the time they reached their intended audience.
