| Additional information |
Part of the Royal Australian Mint's long-running Lunar series, this dollar was released for the Year of the Snake — the sixth animal in the twelve-year Chinese zodiac cycle. Australia's Lunar coinage program has run in parallel with similar series from the Perth Mint, creating an unusual domestic situation where two separate government minting authorities issue competing commemorative dollars targeting the same collector market, often in the same year.
