The "Wheat Sheaf Dollar" was struck as part of the Royal Australian Mint's ongoing series revisiting the original 1984 dollar design by Stuart Devlin, whose reverse had been displaced from regular circulation issues years earlier. The 2012 release was produced specifically for mint sets rather than general circulation, which accounts for the consistently clean surfaces found on most surviving examples — not collector care, but simply the fact that most never saw a cash register.
