| Reverse description | A highly detailed relief depiction of a whale shark (Rhincodon typus) occupies virtually the entire reverse field, rendered with finely textured skin patterning characteristic of the species, including its distinctive checkerboard of pale spots and ridges along the body. The shark is shown in a dynamic three-quarter view, its broad, flattened head and wide mouth directed toward the lower right, with pectoral fins and the upper caudal lobe extending toward the upper field. The species name WHALE SHARK is inscribed in a curved legend along the lower rim. The Perth Mint mintmark P and the designer's initials WR appear in the field. |

| Additional information |
Issued under the Perth Mint's ongoing Australian wildlife series, this dollar was part of a broader push in the mid-2000s to circulate themed coinage through Australia Post's coin collection packs rather than general commerce. Most examples saw no till time whatsoever, which accounts for the consistently high grades encountered today.
