Obverse description The obverse features the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted as a right-facing truncated bust with a tiara, rendered in high relief against a deep blue enamelled field. The circumferential legend reads 'ELIZABETH II' to the left and 'AUSTRALIA 2008' to the right, with the denomination '1 DOLLAR' inscribed along the lower border. Below the effigy, the inscription '1oz 999 SILVER' appears in the central field. The lower half of the obverse houses a semi-circular locket compartment containing six loose genuine Australian opal cabochons, their iridescent play-of-colour visible through a transparent cover.
