Additional information

New Zealand issued a cluster of commemorative dollars around the 2013 anniversary cycle, and this piece marks sixty years since the coronation of Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953 — an event at which New Zealand was formally represented and which carried particular weight for the Dominion, as the Queen had toured the country just months afterward in the first visit by a reigning monarch. That 1953–54 royal tour remains the longest a British sovereign has spent in New Zealand.
