| Obverse description | The fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, facing right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara with pearl drop earring visible. The fine detail of the Queen's hair and crown is rendered with exceptional depth befitting the proof finish. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left rim, with AUSTRALIA and the date 2019 along the right rim. The engraver's initials IRB appear in small characters beneath the portrait truncation. |

The Great Aussie Coin Hunt, launched by the Royal Australian Mint in 2019, was a circulation campaign built around 26 alphabet letters, each paired with an object or animal considered distinctly Australian. The program was designed explicitly to drive public engagement with coinage at a moment when cash transactions in Australia were declining sharply year-on-year. The silver proof versions were struck separately for collectors and never entered circulation.
KM#3638a denotes the proof striking of the "K" issue — kangaroo being the near-universal assignment for that letter.
