Launched in 2019, the Great Aussie Coin Hunt was the Royal Australian Mint's most ambitious circulation program in decades — 26 different reverses, one for each letter of the alphabet, released into general circulation through major retailers and banks. The "B" coin was among the first wave, and the program generated genuine public hoarding behavior almost immediately, with many Australians pulling coins from change and refusing to spend them.
The sheer scale of the mintage across all 26 letters made this a logistical exercise as much as a numismatic one. Some letters proved far harder to find in circulation than others, driving a secondary market even within the same year of issue.
