The Australian Stock Horse breed traces directly to the horses imported for the New South Wales Corps in the early colonial period, later shaped by remount programs during the Boer War and both World Wars — animals bred for endurance over speed, capable of covering rough inland terrain that would destroy a thoroughbred. Perth Mint's bullion series has frequently drawn on Australian agricultural heritage, but the Stock Horse release found a notably receptive secondary market among collectors already deep in the two-ounce and ten-ounce variants issued alongside it.
The .999 fine series began in 2012 with the Kookaburra transitioning out; this horse issue was part of Perth's strategy to diversify away from wildlife themes.
