Obverse description Fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, rendered in fine detail with elaborately styled hair. The legend NEW ZEALAND arcs along the left periphery and ELIZABETH II along the right, with the date 2003 at the base. The engraver's initials IRB appear below the truncation of the neck. The portrait is set against a deeply mirrored proof field, characteristic of the Rank-Broadley effigy used on Commonwealth coinage from 1998 onward.
