Reverse description A standing kangaroo in high relief occupies the centre of the design, set within a beaded inner circle bearing the legend PORT PHILLIP around the upper arc and AUSTRALIA along the lower arc, with the date 1853 in the exergue. The bold legend ONE DOLLAR arches across the upper field outside the inner circle, while decorative scroll ornaments flank the central medallion on either side, evoking the historic Port Phillip Pattern coin of 1853.
