The title quotes Dorothea Mackellar's 1908 poem "My Country," specifically the second stanza — arguably the most recited lines in Australian verse. The full line reads "a land of droughts and flooding rains," written by Mackellar at age 19 while homesick in England. Perth Mint's use of pad printing, a technique borrowed from industrial product marking, allowed color application onto the coin's surface without the dimensional limitations of enamel inlay — a relatively recent addition to the mint's production repertoire by 2015.
