Additional information

Part of a six-coin series issued by the Perth Mint marking the Australian states and territories, this piece commemorates New South Wales — the oldest of Australia's colonies, founded with the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in January 1788. The pad printing technique, applied directly onto the coin's surface in a secondary manufacturing step, was a relatively novel application for Australian circulation-format issues at the time and accounts for the weight differential from standard aluminium bronze dollars.
